Fixed Prosthodontics – Bridges and Crowns
Fixed prosthodontics is the area of dentistry that focuses on the construction of restorations permanently bonded in the mouth.
Bridges and crowns are part of this field and can address a wide range of dental problems.
When is a crown needed for a tooth?
When a tooth has lost a significant amount of its structure, it is often difficult to restore it with a simple filling.
In these cases, a crown is made to fully cover the tooth. This restores the tooth in a way that provides greater strength and protects it from chewing forces over time.
When is a bridge needed?
When natural teeth are missing, unattractive gaps appear. These gaps can not only affect the appearance of your smile but also cause problems with chewing and other issues in the masticatory system (jaws, muscles, temporomandibular joint).
In such cases, if there are natural teeth on both sides of the gap, these teeth can be used as supports, and one or more intermediate teeth can be placed between them to fill the space.
What materials are used for prosthetic restorations?
Metal-ceramic
All-ceramic
Zirconia
In a future article, we will explore each of these options in detail.
